Is Uncle Nearest Whiskey Gluten-Free?
Here’s What the Tests Say.
All Uncle Nearest whiskeys are distilled from grain, which naturally contains gluten. However, gluten proteins do not carry over during distillation — a scientifically recognized process that separates alcohol from solids, including gluten.
To ensure full transparency, we send random samples of our whiskey to one of the most respected, triple TTB-certified laboratories in the country. In our most recent testing, as well as in previous independent lab tests, all three of our core expressions — Uncle Nearest 1884, 1856, and our rye-based whiskey (the foundation of every expression we create) — showed “none detected” (n.d.) for gluten. This confirms that Uncle Nearest contains no detectable gluten and comfortably meets the FDA’s threshold for gluten-free classification.
That said, federal TTB regulations prevent us from labeling our whiskey as “gluten-free”, simply because it is made from grains that once contained gluten. But the facts are clear, and we believe our customers deserve to know them.
So while you won’t see “gluten-free” printed on our bottle, you can feel confident that **Uncle Nearest meets the safety standards recognized by the FDA and international celiac organizations.
As always, we remain committed to transparency, quality, and honoring the trust you place in every pour.
